Melasma is a common but difficult to treat cause of hyperpigmentation. There are a number of treatment options, and often a combination of these is required to achieve the best outcome.

Dr Ludgate often treats melasma with a series of Glytone chemical peels. These contain various strengths of glycolic acid, a natural fruit acid which stimulates regeneration of skin cells and a reduction in pigmentation. In addition to reducing pigmentation, the peels also result in your skin looker brighter and fresher, and any blemishes can be evened out.

Some cases of melasma, may require treatment with our BBL. In our hands, BBL can be very effective for melasma and is often combined with prescription bleaching agents. Laser treatment for melasma should only be performed by an expert as many lasers or pulsed light devices can sometimes increase the pigmentation.

Careful sun protection is vital for all patients with melasma. We offer Glytone sunscreen which is a mineral based sunscreen which clinically proven active ingredients to maximize protection. Melasma also often requires prescription dermatological formulas of bleaching substances, and Dr Ludgates specialist knowledge allows him to offer the latest options.
